This spring, U.S. leaders from all walks of life are taking part in bringing to Europe an initiative to equip one million Christian leaders worldwide in basic leadership skills by 2008.

Since its launch in Europe this spring, the Million Leaders Mandate initiative has held 12 conferences and involved 82,408 European leaders, according to the Duluth, Ga.-based EQUIP ministry. Currently, the initiative is active in 44 countries on three continents since its worldwide launch in 2003 and has exposed more than 800,000 leaders around the world to biblically-based leadership principles on a systematic basis.

“Having strong mentors and high-quality training has been critical to helping me to become an effective leader,” said EQUIP’s Brad Parsley, who traveled to Romania late last month to launch Million Leaders Mandate in that country.

“I’m excited to see leaders in Europe involved in that same kind of training,” he added.

According to EQUIP, the Million Leaders Mandate is training leaders from all cultures and political backgrounds to change their countries from the inside out. The goal of EQUIP’s initiative is to provide one million international leaders of faith and integrity with basic training to increase their effectiveness in their home countries. Training and resources for the initiative are provided through EQUIP.

“Leadership training and resources are critical for the success of any nation,” said John Hull, president of EQUIP. “We are excited to be able to bring the Million Leaders Mandate program to the countries of Europe.”

Last month, EQUIP reported that more than 100 U.S. leaders—called Associate Trainers—would help lead training workshops for the 35 European countries participating in Million Leaders Mandate.

“Each Associate Trainer has committed to use their personal time for the three-year training program, which involves a live training session in their assigned country every six months,” the ministry reported.

Workshop topics include:
- Cultivating people skills
- Strategic planning
- Fostering effective teamwork
- Building successful partnerships

For the remainder of this month, EQUIP is scheduled to hold four 2005 Million Leaders Mandate "Train The Trainers" Conferences. Three of the two-day conferences began yesterday in Cape Town, South Africa; Lusaka, Zambia; and Mbabane, Swaziland. One is scheduled to begin tomorrow in Windhoek, Namibia.
