New iPod Touch 5 Release Date Pushed Back 3 Weeks?

The new iPod Touch 5's release date was speculated to be Oct. 9 after reports were released claiming that Apple plans on launching the device in Japan on that date.

However, there has been no word or confirmation of that happening, Japanese tech site known as Macotakara.

Other reports have pointed to the new iPod Touch launching at the end of October. This seems to be a more likely release date, since it is only one day before the rumored Japanese launch and no information has been leaked confirming it.

Australians who ordered the iPod Touch were alarmed earlier this month when the Apple Online Store in the country changed the shipping date information for the device to shipping in "three weeks." This same change occurred in New Zealand as well.

MacRumors speculates that this is referring to a second shipment, and that the first pre-orders will arrive this week. But there have not been any reports of customers receiving their iPod Touch devices yet.

The new device will come in two different memory capacities, 32GB and 64GB. The latter of these models will cost $399.

The media device features a thinner 6.1mm frame and a 4-inch display, making it the same size as the iPhone 5. It comes with the A5 chip found in the iPhone 4 and is supposed to be seven times faster than previous models. Users should be able to play 40 hours of music and 8 hours of video straight on its battery power.

It also features a 5-megapixel rear camera and a strap, making photography more appealing on the device. It can record video in 1080p and FaceTime in 720p. It can also take panoramic photos. The headphone jack has been moved to the bottom left on the new iPod and it comes with the redesigned Ear Pod headphones Apple debuted at its iPhone 5 event.
