New Orleans Pelicans NBA Trade Rumors: Pelicans Look to Unload Terrence Jones After DeMarcus Cousins Trade

Early in the season, the New Orleans Pelicans had to lean on forward Terrence Jones a lot because of Ömer Aşık and Alexis Ajinça's inability to contribute on the offensive end. Jones actually played really well this season as he logged a lot of minutes playing beside Pelicans franchise player Anthony Davis. But when the team acquired perennial All-Star DeMarcus Cousins in a blockbuster trade with the Sacramento Kings, Jones knew that his playing time was going to take a massive hit.

Well, it looks like he knows exactly what he has to do because Chris Haynes of ESPN has reported that the Pelicans and Jones' camp have mutually decided to put the forward on the trade market. Jones obviously wants to contribute and play heavy minutes since he's having a solid season, but the best way to do so is to get traded to another team before the trade deadline. Meanwhile, Donatas Motiejunas and Dante Cunningham can back up Davis and Cousins, so the Pelicans have nothing to worry about.

Jones is averaging 11.5 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting a respectable 47.3 percent from the field. He has developed a mid-range jumper since he came into the league and he can also knock down the occasional three pointer. This season he's shooting 25.3 percent from the three-point line. He's not exactly an elite outside shooter, but he can still spread the floor and give his teammates room to operate. Jones also plays solid defense.

According to the Kentucky Wildcats community website A Sea of Blue, the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics were all potential landing spots for Jones. The report also mentioned that the Thunder were the frontrunner right now. That's a lot of options.

Wherever Jones ends up, he should be ready to contribute and help his team win.
