Chase Daniel Visits New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are still busy looking for another backup quarterback to play behind starter Drew Brees and they may turn to a familiar face for help at the position.

ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that the New Orleans Saints have brought in Chase Daniel for a free-agent visit on Sunday. However, he has already left town without signing a contract. Of course, there's a chance he might still end up with the Saints.

There's one huge problem, though. Daniel has previously stated that he wants to start, but he can't do that with the Saints this season. Brees may be 38, but he's still the Saints' first choice at quarterback. Well, Brees isn't going to play forever. Can Daniel wait patiently for his chance to compete for the starting job?

Meanwhile, Daniel will have to compete for playing time against Luke McCown if he joins the Saints. ESPN's Mike Triplett said the Saints are also considering drafting a quarterback to bring along slowly behind their veterans.

"Even if the Saints sign Daniel as their backup, they could consider drafting a quarterback this year. Although Brees is still thriving, he is 38 years old and heading into the final year of his contract," Triplett stated in his piece.

Daniel was originally signed by the Washington Redskins when he went undrafted in 2009, but he didn't make the final cut. After he was waived by the Redskins, Daniel signed with the Saints and he played for them for four seasons as a backup.

The Saints wanted to keep him after the 2012 season, but he ended up signing with the Kansas City Chiefs. After three seasons in Kansas City, Daniel signed a three-year, $21 million deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. He didn't really get the chance to fight for the starting job with the Eagles and he was released last week.

Aside from the Saints, Daniel also visited the New York Jets on Monday.
