New Study With App Shows People are Most Happy During Sex

A new study claims people are most happy when they are having sex, and an application for the iPhone was used to record the data.

Research involved 45,000 Apple iPhone users for more than a year. Participants of the study regularly updated their level of happiness through an app several times a day.

Researcher George Mackerron conducted the “mappiness” project with the help of the London School of Economics. The study recorded more than three million responses over the course of a year. The app asked users to record their activity, location and happiness up to five times a day.

The data was then compiled and organized in a “hedonimeter” that tracked the user’s responses.

The app sends alerts throughout the day, has participants record, and sends back their responses. The responses are from choices on the app and relate to how one feels and how content a person is in the moment. The app asked for details about the location of the individual for some context. There are about 40 different options to choose.

The research also showed that people are less happy during the week than they are during the weekend. In addition, other than sex, the next two things that gives people the most happiness are exercising and entertainment. The top two categories with the lowest level of happiness were working and commuting.

When asked why he wanted to do the study, Mackerron said: “Most of the little work that has been done on this looks at the negative side of well-being, the effects of environment on mental and physical ill-health. There is very little simply asking people how they feel.”

This, however, is not the only study mapping the moods of society. A group of Harvard psychologists also developed an app to measure how happy people are at any given time.

The study’s website, Trackyourhappiness.org, allows users to sign up for the app and have their answers recorded. Not surprisingly, their research has also showed that people are most happy during sex.
