New 'X-Files' News, Update: David Duchovny Cried After Reading Reboot Script

Details for Fox's upcoming revival of its hit sci-fi horror TV drama series "The X-Files" have been sparse lately. However, cast member David Duchovny revealed, during a recent interview with the press, that he's already been handed down the first script for the new installment and this is what he has to say about it:

"I got the first script this morning," Duchovny, who plays Fox Mulder, told Entertainment Weekly. "I just read it about an hour ago and I started crying reading the first page. It was just so strange to see the names on the page. It had nothing to do with the script itself … That was nice and strangely emotional for me, and I'll have to figure out how to use that [in the performance]."

When asked further about the material, the actor, who plays opposite with Gillian Anderson's Dana Scully, declined to give away the details.

"I can tell you absolutely nothing — and it's fantastic," Duchovny said.

He did, however, offer some clarification about the nature of the upcoming revival as to whether it would feature stand-alone mystery cases or that it would have a mythology that connects through the new installment.

"Even though there's only six, there will be a mix," he went on to say. "It's not really The X-Files without the mythology."

Moreover, the actor expressed his openness in doing yet another run for the cult TV classic.

"I would be open to doing another cycle," Duchovny continued. "I don't know that I could do a 20-episode version of this show at this point in my life, and I don't know that Gillian could. But I think everybody is open ended on what happens after this."

Aside from Duchovny and Anderson, the new "X-Files" will once again feature the acts of its former cast members including Mitch Pileggi as Walter Skinner and William B. Davis as the Cigarette Smoking Man.

The new installment of the series is slated to debut on Jan. 24, 2016 on Fox.
