New Xbox Live Update Adds New Tournament Mode, Custom Gamerpics, More

Microsoft has announced that it will be releasing a wide range of new features to Xbox Live in the weeks to come for "select" Xbox Insider members on Xbox One and Windows 10.

As outlined in a blog post from Major Nelson, among the changes that will be implemented on Xbox Live is the addition of a feature which allows users to select a custom gamerpic directly from the console, a Windows 10 PC or even a smartphone.

However, unlike many of the other features outlined by Microsoft, the custom image feature will "be in preview longer than other features to ensure it's great for everyone when released."

A new Arena tournament mode will also be powered by Xbox Live, allowing users to participate in new tournaments in the game "World of Tanks," specifically. Profiles will show an Xbox Live user's Arena tournament history as well as upcoming tournaments. There is also a button which allows other users to join another person's broadcast if their game is ongoing.

Clubs and Looking for Group (LFG) sections are also expanded in the updated Xbox Live site, allowing users to see detailed information about gamers who are interested in joining a certain LFG party. The Xbox Live improvements allow users to search for LFG posts which are directly connected to an Achievement, and to pin posts to the top of the Club feed.

Xbox Live users will also be able to hide specific posts, pin posts to the top of the page, as well as filter several selections (games, friends or clubs) in their own Activity Feed.

With the Xbox Live update, users will also get to log in to a Wi-Fi network whenever they need to use a browser to sign in or for authentication. Another added feature is the ability to filter games at the My Games and Apps section, allowing users to look exclusively at either Xbox One or Xbox 360 games.

After the Xbox Insider preview of the update this month, the new features added to Xbox Live will be available to all users in the near future.
