However, their form is impressive as of late and a win over the Rangers will give them their fifth win in six games.
The Sharks started their regular season with a big win over the Los Angeles Kings when they thrashed their rivals 5-1.
Next up were the Anaheim Ducks and they beat another rival 2-0.
The Sharks made it three straight wins with a 5-0 domination over the Washington Capitals before they made it four straight with a 2-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils.
They were handed their first loss of the season with a big 6-3 defeat to the New York Islanders in a match where San Jose allowed three straight goals in the final period after being tied 3-3 at the end of the 2nd frame.
Now they will try to make amends by bouncing back against another New York team in the Rangers.
On the other hand, the Rangers started off the season red-hot as they beat the defending champions Chicago Blackhawks 3-2.
Next up were Columbus Blue Jackets and the score ended 4-2 in favor of the Rangers.
They faced off again the next night and the result was the same as the Rangers won 5-2.
Unfortunately, the streak ended when they played the Winnipeg Jets and were soundly beaten 4-1.
Against the Montreal Canadiens they failed to score a single goal as they lost 3-0 to drop another game.
Their last outing was a 2-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils but the Rangers did get a point after losing in overtime.
Now they will try to get back on track at the expense of the Sharks.
