An Iowa pastor who produced a satirical YouTube video criticizing Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich for his three marriages says the former House Speaker can be forgiven for his mistakes, but not trusted as the president of the United States.

The video, entitled on YouTube "For The Record : Kim Kardashian of the GOP," compares Gingrich to the reality television star and says the GOP presidential hopeful trades in his wives “like used cars.” The video claims that the Republican is rising up the polls because people are not aware of his past, and points to the fact that Gingrich has refused to sign pledges to protect marriage.

In an interview with The Christian Post, pastor Cary Gordon from Cornerstone World Outreach in Sioux City, Iowa, shared his reasons for creating the video. The Iowa pastor said that Gingrich is “a very good speaker while the television cameras were rolling,” but many are in the dark about his past – the candidate left his first wife while she was struggling with cancer.

The pastor said that he would also discourage people from voting for Mitt Romney, explaining that the candidate had “flip-flopped” on various issues, including gay rights and abortion. He said that the two candidates in question had shown that they are untrustworthy, and that it would be “very dangerous” to leave the biggest military force on the planet, the United States Armed Forces, in their hands as commander in chief.

Gordon said that he endorsed former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum for the presidential seat, saying that he was one of the few candidates to stand firm on his policies and take a strong positions on defending marriage and pro-life issues. The pastor added that he would also be happy with Rep. Michele Bachmann getting the Republican nomination, and conveyed that he would trust either candidate to make tough decisions in the White House.

Going back to the issue of Newt Gingrich, the pastor explained that everyone makes mistakes, but it is important that we recognize and learn from them. He said that we should be ready to forgive anyone who asks for it, but that does not mean we can trust them right away with something as important as the presidential seat.

As an example, he brought up the story of Jesus with the sinner on the cross beside Him – Jesus said to the man: “You will be with me together in Paradise.” That did not mean that the criminal was free to walk down from the cross and escape his punishment, Gordon said.

The Iowa pastor concluded that Gingrich needs to earn back the people’s trust by running for a smaller office position first, and proving that he is worthy of the job – because as of right now, the very fact that he has decided to run for the highest office in the land means he is not recognizing the seriousness of his past mistakes.
