Nexus 5 Price Drops $54 for T-Mobile Customers

The overall price for the Nexus 5 handset dropped by $54 for those purchasing it through T-Mobile.

The carrier originally began offering the device for $41.99 up front followed by 24 monthly charges of $16, making it a total of $450. With the new deal customers can purchase the Nexus 5 for the same up front price but will only have to make payments of $16.50 per month, which makes the total cost $396 overall.

This allows T-Mobile to better compete with Google, who currently offers the Nexus 5 for $350.

Google launched the Nexus 5 last year. Specifications on the device include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 processor running at up to 2.3GHz, a 4.96-inch LCD 1080p display, 2GB RAM, Adreno 330 GPU, 16 or 32GB internal memory, a 2300 mAh battery and an 8-megapixel camera with Optical Image Stabilization. It is also one of the first devices to run Google's latest Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.

The handset is currently available in the Google Play store off-contract for just $349. Sprint and various carriers charge customers an extra $100 because that it what they have to pay Google per device. Google is able to discount it since the sales process takes place in-house.

The Nexus 5 is the successor to the wildly popular Nexus 4. Both models run pure forms of Android. The newer model was also used to introduce the world to Google's latest operating system Android 4.4 KitKat. It was the final high-end flagship to launch this year to be that highly anticipated.

The latest versions of the Nexus 5 feature larger speaker grills on the bottom for louder sound. The power button is also said to be a little bit stiffer along with the volume rocker. The changes were first spotted by XDA-Developers user shinral.
