Nexus 5 Price, Specs and Availability Confirmed by Google

Google finally spilled the beans on the long rumored Nexus 5 today in a press release announcing the device's imminent availability.

"Just in time for Halloween, we have two new treats for Android fans," wrote the company. "First, we're excited to unwrap our latest platform release, KitKat, which delivers a smarter, more immersive Android experience to even more people. And second, we're introducing Nexus 5-a new Nexus phone developed with LG."

Specifications on the Nexus 5 include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 processor running at up to 2.3GHz, a 4.96-inch LCD 1080p display, 2GB RAM, Adreno 330 GPU, 16 or 32GB internal memory, a 2300 mAh battery and an 8-megapixel camera with Optical Image Stabilization.

The Nexus 5 will also be one of the first devices to run Google's latest Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.

"For KitKat, we partnered with LG to develop Nexus 5- the slimmest and fastest Nexus phone ever made," wrote Google in the press release. "Its design is simple and refined to showcase the 5 Full HD display."

Unlike its predecessor, the LG Nexus 4, the Google Nexus 5 features LTE connectivity so users could get the most out of the new device's higher-end specs. It also comes with ultra fast Wi-Fi and improved Bluetooth. The new lens on its camera captures more light for brighter night and sharper action shots. The Optical Image Stabilization will take care of issues with pictures taken with shaky hands. The device will feature a new HDR+ mode that automatically snaps a rapid burst of photos and combines them to give the user the best possible single shot.

The Nexus is available today unlocked in the Google Play store today. The 16GB version sells for $349 and the 32GB model retails at $399. It can be purchased in both black and white.
