NFL Trade Rumors, News: J.J. Watt Inks 6-year Contract Extension With Texans, Broncos' Wes Welker Suspended for 4 Games

25-year-old Justin James Watt was relieved after finally penning a six-year contract extension with the Houston Texans last Monday, according to reports.

The star defensive end played for the Texans in the National Football League since 2011 following his announcement of forgoing his senior year in college. In the 2012 season, Watt was given the NFL Defensive Player of The Year award while also making it at the number 5 spot of the league's Top 100 list. This makes him the highest ever debutant and the highest-ranked defensive player, according to NFL.com.

Signed up to the 2021 season, Watt's deal earned him a reported worth of $100 million, including a $10 million signing bonus and $51.8 million guaranteed overall check.

In the interview, Watt's expressed his excitement and desire to prove that he truly earned the huge deal.

"I hope the people of Houston don't mind me sticking around for a little while longer because I happen to like it here quite a bit," Watt said.

"I'm really excited about this and I'm very, very fortunate. I promise to do everything in my power to work extremely hard and give everything that I have to prove that I've earned this," the All-Pro player added.

In other news, the NFL announced Tuesday night that Denver Broncos receiver Wes Welker is officially suspended for the first four games of the season following his violation of the league's PED policy, NBC Sports reported.

According to the report, the four-game ban will have Welker miss games against Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks, and Arizona Cardinals.

The banishment was imposed as Welker has been found taking MDMA, an illegal substance banned under the league's performance enhancement drug policy.

"Tonight's news regarding Wes is very disappointing for our team, but we understand the league's authority in this area," Head coach John Fox told reporters. "While it's unfortunate to not have him to start the year, I have full confidence in our wide receivers and expect that group to continue playing at a high level."
