Nia Long Delivers Baby After Doctor's Warnings, Actress Thanks God

Actress Nia Long gave birth to her son this week, after asking God for the child.

Long told Ebony magazine that doctors warned her about having a second child at her age. She recalled having a conversation with NBA playing boyfriend Ime Udoka about wanting to give birth at 41-years-old.

“I was like, ‘Babe, I’m really kind of sad right now,” said Long to Ebony. “The doctor actually said if I wanted to have more children, it would be hard.”

However, she said Udoka encouraged her not to believe what doctors proclaimed.

“The next time [Ime] came to visit, he said, ‘I don’t believe that,’” Long added. “I said, ‘You don’t?’ He said, ‘No.’ And I said, ‘Good, me neither.’ Then I got pregnant.”

The acress credited a higher power for her miracle.

“I honestly asked God for this,” Long said.

Long said doctors tried to make women her age feel as though they had to give up hope if they wanted to conceive.

“The medical [profession] tries to tell every woman, ‘Have your babies before 40 because you shouldn’t have children after 40.’ Society tells us, ‘Get married before 30, because no man wants a woman after 30,” Long explained. “You are not half the woman you’re gonna be until you turn 30. You’re not even half of that woman yet.”

Long’s fans showed the “Love Jones” and “Boston Legal” actress support on Twitter.

"Congratulations on your new gift from God Nia Long," one fan tweeted.

The actress expressed her excitement for the opportunity to bring a new life into her family.

“This is the most exciting time in our lives. Words can’t explain how thrilled we are by the new addition to our family,” Long said. “We feel truly blessed and appreciate all the well wishes and prayers.”
