Nike Goes 'Back to the Future' With Self-Tying Shoe Innovation

Nike has confirmed that they are working on a "Back to the Future"-inspired shoe.

Tinker Hatfield, Nike's shoe designer expressed his high hopes for the new Nike MAGs that has Power Laces which is believed to automatically tie the shoes, just like the ones featured in the movie.

Hatfield confirmed the news in a trade show in California. Nice Kicks also featured Hatfield's plan when they posted a tweet saying, "Tinker talks Nike MAG 2015 release with Power Laces at #AgendaEmerge."

Then, to support evidence that this innovation is more than just a clever idea, it was also reported that Nike has already filed a patent for the Power Laces in the U.S. patent papers. However, the expected price and release date for the Power Laces have not been announced yet.

"The anticiapation for this release is something that few understand. I don't even know if everyone at Nike realizes just how much demand there is for this shoe," Nice Kicks told Mashable.

The idea was not made overnight. Nike has already seen the demand for luxury sneakers back in 2011 when they had an auction for 1,500 pairs of limited edition Nike shoes. All the proceeds went to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Later that year, Nike released another line of high-end sneakers which sold for about $5,000 each.

So far, the fans are holding on to Hatfield's hint on the release date when he said there are "11 and two-thirds months left in 2015."
