Nintendo Announces Two More Smartphone Games – 'Fire Emblem' And 'Animal Crossing'

After the success of their smartphone app "Miitomo," both for Android and iOS, Nintendo is getting serious with developing more smartphone apps, this time for gaming. According to a report in Tech Insider, the Japanese company that has been resisting the call to go into mobile game and app development has finally realized that they have a place in mobile gaming. The fact that the company has been experiencing dwindling sales recently became a push factor for them to partner with a developer to enter mobile gaming.

"Miitomo" is more a social networking app than a game. It boasts of over 10 million users who have their own unique avatars and are exchanging conversations with friends in the network. Revenues are generated via an in-store shop where users can buy accessories and outfits for their avatars.

Nintendo recently announced that it will be bringing two more mobile games to smartphones and these are "Fire Emblem" and "Animal Crossing." Both games are existing Nintendo franchises which according to the report are best suited for a mobile gaming environment. According to a TechCrunch report, both games are set to be released sometime in fall 2016.

"Fire Emblem" is a role-playing game which involves a small army of soldiers. According to TechCrunch, the mobile version will feature characters that are "more accessible" than the ones featured in the console version of the game. Gameplay is still turn-based so that gamers can strategize their next moves and likely having multiple gaming sessions for a single fight.

"Animal Crossing" on the other hand is a game where the gamer gets to rule or manager a small town, where the gamer can design what it looks like as well as interact with its villagers, which are designed to be "very cute" animals. This gameplay also lends itself well to mobile gaming, as gamers can check on their village periodically.

According to a CNET report, Nintendo's release of these two smartphone apps is also a way to divert attention to the fact that they have yet to release its new gaming hardware, the Nintendo NX. The company announced that the console is coming in March 2017, which is a little less than a year away.
