Nintendo Hopes 'Pokemon Go' Success will Revitalize Marketing for Other Company Franchise Including Super Mario, Legend of Zelda

Nintendo Hopes to Expand Further with 'Pokemon Go' Global Success

Nintendo's "Pokemon GO" is not only a viral success but also a global phenomenon but will it be enough to further market other character favorites such as Super Mario?

Before "Pokemon Go," Nintendo was known for other successful franchises including Super Mario. The overwhelming success of the mobile AR game has inevitably made Nintendo a household name and with that, the company intends to take advantage of the fame to further market and expand.

Importance of Nintendo's Intellectual Property

According to a report by Reuters, the Nintendo intellectual property could prove to be very valuable in several years. Nintendo merchandise is limited as the company was more concentrated in their platform consoles.
"Nintendo used to have only few people in its licensing business and deal only with a limited number of merchandising companies," a toy company spokesperson who wished to not be named said, according to the outlet.

Nintendo Now Not Just Limited to 'Pokemon Go'
Nintendo's success thus far has made it capable to expand more of their titular characters beyond their console gaming devices. Shigeru Miyamoto has said that it may take a couple of years for these to be visible, First Post reported.

Apart from "Pokemon Go" merchandising, Nintendo has also started to look into licensing some of their characters which may include Super Mario, Link and others for products and possibly theme park rides at Universal Studios.

Peddling Nostalgia the Success Behind Nintendo?
Quartz points out that Nintendo's "Pokemon Go" is nothing short of new in terms of the franchise. Their appearance in the mobile gaming bandwagon may have been late but the payoff has been overwhelming thus far.

The most vocal "Pokemon Go" players were the older generation kids who grew up to playing old school console gaming devices. Does this mean that Nintendo's success has been up to the peddling of nostalgia? It has been so convincing that even the older and the newer generations have joined the "Pokemon Go" phenomenon. With that said, will we see another Nintendo franchise that will hit off using the same formula? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
