Hackers first discovered the emulator when they found a file that was tagged as "Flog," which is golf spelled backward. After doing some unofficial runs to trigger the game, the Nintendo Switch finally pulled up the "Golf" screen, with specific instructions on how to use the Joy-Con controller to play. At that time, no one could explain how to trigger the emulator. First, fans would have to set their time and date to July 11. Coincidentally, this is also the date when Iwata died from cancer at the age of 55. Owners who have never connected their Switch to the Internet will be able to configure the time and date. Otherwise, the console will ignore any changes that have been made, and the only way to experience it is to wait until July 11 rolls around.

Second, gamers will have to make a specific motion with their Joy-Con controllers that emulate the gesture that Iwata was known for because of the Nintendo Direct. By raising their arms and pushing forward with the controllers, the "Golf" screen will come up. It will also play a Japanese voice clip of Iwata, which is sure to trigger some emotions from the fans.

Although Nintendo might have never meant for anyone to discover "Golf" on the Switch, many fans appreciated the tribute, especially since Iwata played a big role in making the company the giant that it is now.
