Nintendo Switch Won't Last Very Long With Heavy Games; Several Ways to Extend Battery Life

Now that several Nintendo Switch reviews are up, many testify that its battery pack is not its strongest asset. But on the brighter side, Nintendo designed the console in a way that players will have options to extend its battery life.

With stocks getting sold out since its launch, the Nintendo Switch is generally a success. However, there are several areas that gamers wished the hybrid console could have offered something better, such as its battery pack. But it is safe to say that Nintendo has seen that one coming and made sure that consumers would have remedies for it.

According to a recent review from Tech Radar, the Nintendo Switch will not last that long when playing a graphics-heavy game such as its launch title "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild." The report claims that after a full charge session, the console can operate up to around 2.5 hours of playing the Zelda game.

Meanwhile, Trusted Reviews has also shared more specific results from testing the Nintendo Switch's battery. The news source followed a test method where they played with "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" continuously within an hour from being fully charged, once with the brightness on 100 percent and Wi-Fi mode enabled, and another hour where airplane mode is enabled and brightness is set to only 50 percent.

After an hour spent playing "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" with the brightness set to its maximum capacity and an enabled Wi-Fi setting, the battery level dropped by 36 percent. On the other hand, an hour of playing the same game with the lesser demanding setting (as specified above) used 31 percent of the battery.

Options to Extend the Battery Life of a Nintendo Switch

On the other hand, Digital Foundry listed three external portable batteries that Nintendo Switch owners can purchase to extend the life of the console.

First, the report recommends the Anker Powercore, which is equipped with 10,000-milliampere hour portable charging capacity. The mAh number alone can be convincing, especially considering that the device is handy and only costs $28.

Digital Foundry also mentioned the Lumsing Glory P2 powerbank with 15,000 mAh and costs $21. Lastly, the report recommends the RAVPower portable charger with a whopping 26,800 mAh pack and a price tag of $50.

The three portable chargers can be used on a Nintendo Switch by purchasing a separate USB-C adapter. It is also good to consider that among the three, the Anker Powercore is the most travel-friendly for being just as big as a human palm while the other two are almost the size of a scientific calculator.
