Nissan Unveils 2017 Armada Full-Size SUV

The all-new 2017 Nissan Armada full-size sports utility vehicle (SUV) has finally been unveiled ahead of the Chicago Auto Show on Wednesday.

The 27 Nissan Armada SUV is bigger compared with its predecessor, which took its cue from the Nissan Titan Pickup. The new Armada, however, is inspired by the Nissan Patrol and Infiniti QX80 SUVs with a few touches of luxury, according to Detroit News.

"This new Armada, as you can see, is one capable full-size adventure SUV: strong, durable, authentic," said Nissan North America Director and Chief Marketing Manager Phil O'Connor on Wednesday.

Nissan North America Senior Manager-Product Communications Dan Passe also highlighted the vast difference of the new and the previous Armada. He said the two models only share the same name, but they have different platforms, interiors, engines, and bodies, Wards Auto reports.

The new SUV is set to arrive in dealers this summer and will be available in the SV, SL, and Platinum trim levels, and in two- and four-wheel drive options. While Nissan announced that the 2017 Armada will be powered by a re-engineered 5.6-liter V-8, seven-speed automatic transmission, and a set of security and active safety features, the company has kept pricing and fuel economy under wraps, the report details.

O'Connor also announced that they aim to free up space in the United States for the production of more pickups. To do this, the Armada will be assembled in Kyushu, Japan and the engine will be made in Decherd, Tennessee, the report relays.

The Armada is capable of carrying seven to eight passengers and towing up to 8,500 lbs. The suite of safety and entertainment features available in the Platinum trim include a standard DVD family entertainment system with dual 7-inch head restraint monitors, two VTR jacks, two USB ports, two wireless headphones, and one remote controller.

The new vehicle is expected to make its official debut at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, which will feature the latest pickups, SUVs, and crossovers.

The 2017 Nissan Armada full-body SUV will only be available in North America. It will go on sale this summer, but the pricing details are yet to be announced.
