'No Man's Sky' News: What Does It Take To Play Universe Of 18 Billion Planets?

It is the start of the New Year and it is only several months away until the release of one of the most-anticipated games of the year, "No Man's Sky."

The game's developer, Hello Games, is hard at work preparing a universe of 18 billion planets for players to explore, and a report in Tech Times gives players an idea on just how big this universe will be and what it takes to play the game.

The upcoming title, as described by Hello Games, is composed of an endless number of solar systems comprising an endless universe that will literally take billions of years to explore. It is truly representative of what an open world game should be.

While most games in the genre talk about maps of new areas to be explored, "No Man's Sky" is all about new solar systems and new planets. All in all, the game boasts of having 18 quintillion unique planets in one universe, which is a lot.

When Sean Murray, Managing Director of Hello Games was interviewed about the game, he emphasized that the game, specifically the galaxy where the game is set "has no edge." Players will experience a sense of endless exploration as they venture deeper into the far reaches of the universe. There will also be dangers lurking everywhere such as black holes that lead to unknown places.

The universe and the planets in it will also feature different creatures and beings living on each planet. Some are friendly, others are hostile so players will need to determine which is which before exploring a planet.

Aside from the planets, players get to choose what spaceship they will use in their journey. They will also get to customize their ship's weaponry as well as its speed and performance. As players traverse the universe, those they will encounter along the way, except for the creatures, will be other players in the game.

Players can band together and do joint explorations, but competitive play is also an option, according to Murray.

Hello Games released a trailer called "Portal" in early December. The trailer featured five ways of traversing the galaxy, such as "walking across the surface of planets, flying in their atmospheres, jetting into space, warping between systems and finding mysterious portals, which take you ... somewhere…"

The game is arriving for PC and PS4 in June 2016.
