Nokia Unveils New Asha 501 Smartphone

Nokia unveiled the new Asha 501 smartphone today that introduces a brand new operating system to the public.

This handset will be the first to run the new Asha platform, which is designed to make the smartphone experience faster and more responsive. The software is also designed to assist developers in creating and publishing more apps that they could potentially generate more revenue from.

"The Asha platform is faster, more responsive and more flexible, too," said Nokia. "This means new features and functionalities can be anticipated with future updates. As with smartphones, app compatibility is key. People don't want to buy devices that can't run a wide variety of apps."

The Asha will launch with a handful of marquee apps including Facebook, Twitter, The Weather Channel, and games such as Big Little City and Real Football 2013.

The Asha 501 is an affordable smartphone that comes in bold colors, features a high quality build, and an innovative user interface. It is made to be accessible to a larger market even though its build is fairly high-end. It comes in six different colors that complement its design. It also features a removable casing and a scratch resistant glass display that has a 3-inch capacitive touchscreen and a single 'back' button. The smartphone weighs just 98 grams, making it efficient for customers seeking a lightweight device.

Other specifications on the Nokia Asha 501 include a 3.2-megapixel camera, dual-SIM capabilities, 4GB of internal memory, and the ability to expand up to 32GB with a microSD card.

The Asha 501 will go on sale in 90 countries later on this quarter. It will retail for just $99 without any contracts or subsidies, making it an extremely affordable device.
