Occupy Wall Street: Thousands to Gather in UK for 'Occupy London Stock Exchange'

A protest camp inspired by the “Occupy Wall Street” campaign has been planned for London’s financial center next weekend. Already 3,000 people have agreed to attend the event on Oct 15 - organized through a Facebook page titled “Occupy London’s Stock Exchange.”

One thousand other people on Twitter have also expressed their interest to join.

Kai Wargalla, co-creator of the Occupy London Facebook group told NBC: “The Wall Street protests sort of inspired everything. It was just time to start here. We need people to step up and speak out. The movement aims to unite the United Kingdom’s far-flung activist communities in addressing the inequality of the financial system.”

The protesters are also planning occupations in Worcester, Nottingham, Edinburgh, Liverpool, and Bristol.

In addition, they have called for a global day of action on Oct 15.

“Hundreds attended the General Assembly and we are growing stronger every day!” Read a statement posted on the “Occupy The London Stock Exchange” Facebook page.

“We remained unified and respected each other’s opinions. We are part of a global popular movement and not supportive to one ideology or faction, we are the 99%. Only the General assemblies and occupations themselves truly speak for the movement. Please attend the General Assemblies, become involved in the Occupations have your say and combine your voice with millions - this is a global issue and must be fought in unity!”
