Officer Saves Dog: Carried 75 Pound German Sheppard to Owner After Car Crash

A police officer warmed hearts this week after setting on a two-mile chase to rescue a dog who was involved in a car accident.

Nick Ague is a Pennsylvania Patrolman. On Sunday he responded to a car crash in Palmyra involving at least one car. Two dogs were also in the car at the time of the crash, one of which was immediately captured. But the second dog, a German Sheppard named Mya, went on the run. Ague, who noticed the dog fleeing, set on the chase.

The officer and dog ran for at least two miles according to a CNN report, before the dog came to a stop. Ague approached the dog and noticed that she had injured paws, apparently from running across rough surfaces and hot asphalt. The officer, a dog owner himself, responded by picking the dog up and carrying her back to her own in his arms.

A photo of Ague carrying the dog was posted on the South Londonderry Township Police Facebook page.

"Our Department salutes his efforts," it read in a message under the photo of Ague carrying the 75 pound dog, who appears exhausted and rests her head on the back of Ague's neck.

The picture has since gone viral on the Internet, garnering more than 8,000 likes on Facebook and multiple written reports. But despite his sudden rise to Internet fame, Ague is "keeping a level head," fellow patrolman Scott Firestone told CNN.

Facebook fans were also quick to praise Ague for what they considered to be a "heroic" act.

"Thank you Officer Ague for going over & beyond the call of duty in rescuing the injured German Shepherd," Rosie Baker wrote in response to the photo. "God will bless you as you are a very compassionate soul."

"I salute his efforts and, as an animal lover, thank him wholeheartedly. The world needs more people like Nick Ague," a second responder said.
