Ohio State Buckeyes vs Wichita State Shockers takes place in the NCAA 2013 tournament on Saturday, in one of two March Madness Elite 8 games taking place today. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7.05 p.m. ET and can be watched online through free live stream (details below).
Today's game takes place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. No. 2 seeded Ohio State will be favorites for this game against No. 9 seeded Wichita State, however, they will know there are no easy games at this stage of the tournament and they will have to maintain their intensity and ensure they treat Wichita with the respect they deserve.
Wichita certainly deserve respect, having destroyed Pittsburgh Panthers in the second round, and then causing a massive upset by taking down No. 1 seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs in the third round.
That was a massive win for the Shockers, after Gonzaga had pulled eight points ahead in the second half, and had looked likely to turn the screw and finish the Shockers off.
However, Wichita had other plans in mind with five consecutive shots behind the arc late on to claim the unlikely win.
Wichita finished that third round game with 14 of 28 from three point range, and they will be hoping to raise the bar even further tonight.
The last good run Wichita State had in the NCAA was in 2006 when they made it to the Sweet 16 round, but that time they were knocked out at that stage by George Mason. This year they have already gone one better, making it through to today's Elite 8 game, but they will not want the run to stop now.
Wichita State's reward for taking down Gonzaga was a Sweet 16 game against No. 13 seeded La Salle, and they took their reward with both hands, destroying their opposition 72-58. Despite being seeded only No. 9, Wichita State Shockers are punching above their supposed weight right now, and if they can take take down Ohio State tonight then they will certainly turn even more heads.
Meanwhile, the Buckeyes have done well to come through to the Elite 8, being convincing in the second round against Iona, making the third round without much problem. However, in the third round Iowa State pushed them all the way. Right at the death the game was still tied, with both sides seemingly unable to break the deadlock. But a three pointer from Aaron Craft with less than a second left saw the Buckeyes steal the game at the end.
In the Sweet 16 they played No. 6 seeded Arizona, who again pushed them all the way, but the Buckeyes came through 73-70, proving once again that they can keep their heads when pressured by the opposition.
This should be one of the most exciting games of the Elite 8 round.
