One Direction, No. 1 in U.S., to Sing at Diamond Jubilee?

As the first British group to go straight to number one in the U.S. with their debut album, One Direction may be singing at the Diamond Jubilee.

Queen Elizabeth's 60 years on the throne will be fully celebrated during festivities from June 2nd to the 5th and will include a flotilla on the Thames River and a concert at Buckingham Palace.

Many artists have been rumored to appear at the celebration, including remaining members of The Beatles, and One Direction has admitted they would love to perform for the queen.

"I'd love to meet Her Royal Highness," a One Direction band member, Harry Styles, told the U.K.'s The Mirror.

"I grew up listening to the Beatles 'cos my dad used to play them over and over again," he continued. "I still listen to them now. They're quite an inspiration."

"It'd be amazing if Paul McCartney was up for doing something … I love him. That would be incredible," of the famous singer for The Beatles, Styles added.

While the group is picking up more and more performances as their popularity spreads, Styles is sure that One Direction could fit the queen into their schedule.

"We've got a lot of big plans but I'm sure anything would be struck out of the diary if an invitation came along," said the singer.

Signed onto Simon Cowell's record label, One Direction consists of aforementioned Styles along with members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson.

The former "X-Factor" contestants have sold 176,000 copies of their album, "Up All Night," in the U.S. and reached the U.S. Billboard 200. In the U.K., the group only got to number two with the debut album, released in December.

"I couldn't be happier for One Direction," said "X-Factor" creator Cowell. "It is an incredible achievement. They deserve it. They have the best fans in the world," he told SkyNews.

One Direction has accumulated a huge fan following on Twitter, amassing over 12 million followers on the social media site.
