Online dating websites, specifically designed for Christians, are exploding on the Internet. Throngs of Christians are now logging on to search, message and chat so they can find that "perfect" soul mate.
Monthly page views for dating sites like Single Christian Network, Christiansingles.com, Catholic Mingle, Christian Connection, Big Church and a host of other networks for believers are hovering in the millions.
Although some secular dating sites have the option to "click" a button if you are a Christian or not, online dating services that target Christians tend to dig a little deeper into the individual's background by asking religious questions, and offering faith surveys and moral choices.
Moreover, online dating Christians prefer not to include sex as a casual topic with their dates, which is a topic found on many secular dating sites.
"Christians give a tremendous amount of respect and importance to the act of sex. For them, it is a sacred act that should only be discussed and done within the walls of marriage," according to the OnlineDatingChristians.net website.
Relationship experts say Christians are more particular online when it comes to discussions about faith, morals and religious behavior.
“Christian singles in America today are light-years away from the cloak-and-dagger days of newspaper personals and boring socials,” Jay Simmons, site director for a local Christian marriage camp in Alabama, told The Christian Post.
“Online dating is now very much mainstream. It may shock some of your readers to know that most of the happiest marriages I see today are couples that met online.”
He says Christians everywhere today are wanting to find Christian love and a partner to share their faith with. Christian dating sites seem to appeal to so many because there are nice, wholesome men and women that belong to the website.
Currently there are 54 million singles living in the U.S. and when it comes to dating, everyone can expect hard work, happiness, joy, and sometimes broken hearts. Many Christian churches today are also starting to hold more events aimed at their singles so they can meet and mingle.
“If you are a practicing Christian and your religion is very important to you, then this will affect your love life and your search for a partner,” writes Caroline Reid in Discover Dating Online.
“Be honest. Leading people on will only hurt you at the end. If they are not Christian and you know that you can’t be with that person, then tell them and be upfront because it is not fair on you or them.”
Although many sites draw singles by offering free memberships and registrations, most online dating sites charge a membership fee on a per month basis.
One of the largest free dating sites for Christians singles is growing at an incredible pace without spending any marketing dollars.
ChristianDatingForFree.com (CDFF) is one of the fastest growing sites for Christian singles in the market today. The site reached a milestone of 200,000 active members in August, which is nearly double the numbers joining other free secular sites.
“High quality free online communities can be built without spending any money on acquisition marketing,” said David Perez, CEO of e Dating For Free, Inc.
“Just look at the success Facebook has had by offering a free online community. Successful free community sites are almost always built via free marketing vehicles such as word of mouth and viral marketing.”
The sites monthly visits recently reached a whopping one million and monthly page views are now at the 20 million mark.
“The reason for CDFF’s success is the quality of our user experience. Every day one in 5 people that attempt to join ChristianDatingForFree.com are banned,” said Doron Kim, company president.
“This is done via a combination of technology aimed at spotting scammers and our diligent moderators work 24/7 to screen new members and monitor their behavior.”
“Members tell us all that our community is the best they have seen for avoiding scammers.”
The online dating site also offers Christian chat rooms, message boards, Instant Messaging, Winks, Who’s Viewed Me, and the same features visitors would find on paid sites.
Linda Sangani, a single Christian living in Biloxi, Miss., says she met her fiancé on a Christian online dating service.
“I thought it would be embarrassing or something to put myself out there like that and show the world I am looking for a partner,” Sangani told The Christian Post.
“Online dating eliminates the wasted time that happens when you go out. Christian sites make people answer really specific questions and then you are only talking to people who are compatible with you and believe in Jesus Christ like you. Plus, I really feel safe on a Christian dating site."
Sangani says she is getting married next summer to her "soul mate" she met online.
