Open Doors Takes Coordinating Role with Prayer for the Persecuted Church

Open Doors USA, the oldest on-going ministry to the Persecuted Church, has now taken over the coordinating role with Prayer for the Persecuted Church (PCC).

Open Doors USA, the oldest on-going ministry to the Persecuted Church, has now taken over the coordinating role with Prayer for the Persecuted Church (PCC).

PPC ministries work together to increase awareness about the realities of Christian persecution in restricted countries around the world and to promote the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP) in churches across the United States. The IDOP, which began in 1996, is one of the largest prayer day events of its kind in the world.

"PPC members have enthusiastically endorsed Open Doors USA taking the coordinating role in this important ministry," says John Tuitele, former Director for PPC. "And they are anticipating an even greater role in raising awareness of persecuted believers under the PPC umbrella.

"I see this as an exciting transition for PPC's work. Lives will continue to be transformed - both in churches in the U.S. and among persecuted Christians overseas - through the power of intercessory prayer and continued collaboration among PPC partners and their supporters."

Open Doors USA President Dr. Carl Moeller says, "I consider it an honor and privilege for Open Doors USA to be the coordinating ministry for PPC. Through the efforts of PPC, millions of Christians in this country have been mobilized to pray and support the Persecuted Church."

Andrea Jorn, Director of Prayer and Presence Ministries for Open Doors USA, is the new coordinator of activities for PPC. She says, "I am very excited to see what God is going to do in and through the leadership members and their ministries. Together we will honor PPC's original and vital mission to mobilize prayer in churches. However, partnering ministries want to do even more. More will be shared in the near future about collaborative strategies, but you can count on PPC to continue in its mission to strengthen the suffering church through prayer and action."

In addition to Open Doors USA, PPC partner ministries include Christian Solidarity Worldwide, Christians in Crisis, Iranian Christians International, Jubilee Campaign, Voice of the Martyrs and World Evangelical Alliance. For a complete list of participating organizations go to the PPC website at www.persecutedchurch.org.

On Sunday, Nov. 14, Christians in thousands of churches around the country prayed for suffering believers as part of IDOP 2004. Churches are already gearing up for the next IDOP, which has been slated for Nov. 13, 2005.
