'Orphan Black' News: Series Renewed for Third Season, Filming Starts in Toronto

BBC America has greenlit a third season for the critically acclaimed sci-fi series "Orphan Black" starring Tatiana Maslany in multiple roles.

The renewal is not a surprise as the show has drawn more than its share of awards since the series premiered in March 2013. Maslany, who plays at least a dozen roles, has earned a Golden Globes nomination, and honors from the Critics' Choice TV Awards and a Peabody Award, among others.

The network has ordered 10 episodes for the upcoming season, and filming has reportedly started this month in Toronto.

Last July, the cast has turned out at Comic-Con in San Diego to talk about season 3. It appears that Maslany won't be the only one to play numerous characters when the show comes back next year.

Cast member Ari Millen spoke about his character Mark, who was revealed to be a clone in Season 2. TVLine's Michael Ausiello mentioned that Maslany has set the bar high for her performance on the show, and asked Millen if that made him nervous, knowing that he will be playing multiple roles in the upcoming season.

"It's just very exciting," said Millen. "Getting on the show to begin with is a dream come true, and then to have that revelation at the end of the season … you know, we'll see."

In other news, "Orphan Black" season 2 is already out on Blue Ray and DVD, and the show creators dissected the famous dance clone party scene in it, which was a technical triumph for the team and featured Maslany and her doubles dancing together in one small space.

Show creator Graeme Manson and John Fawcett came up with the use of blocking tape to outline each girl's dancing quadrants, which Maslany said was very technical. She also had to move differently as each character had their own dance styles to suit their respective personalities. The episode was very well-received and highly praised by a lot of critics.

Will we see more of the main character, Sarah Manning, as well as her clones Elizabeth Childs, Cosima Niehaus, Alison Hendrix, and the rest of the clones all together in one or more episodes in season 3?

"Orphan Black" will return in the spring of 2015 on BBC.
