Oscar Pistorius Murder Sentence News, Latest Update: Paralympic Athlete Making the Most of Prison Time

South African Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius is currently serving jail time at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre in Pretoria, following the sentence handed down by the South African court for a culpable homicide conviction.

Latest news on Pistorius revealed that the athlete seems to be making the most of his time in prison.

The Paralympian is brewing up plans to start a basketball programme for his fellow inmates, according to DailyMail. He started doing so by asking his sister Aimee, 25, to ask friends for a donation of balls that they could use inside the prison's basketball court.

As further revealed by his brother, Carl Pistorius, to South African Weekly You, the convicted felon is also helping tuberculosis patients get back into shape while recovering on the hospital wing near to where he is held.

"He often gives fellow prisoners in the hospital wing, mostly recovering from tuberculosis, advise on how to exercise and to strengthen their bodies," Carl said.

The elder Pistorius also took the chance to clear off rumors indicating that his sibling is said to be benefitting from any special treatment in prison.

Rather than having a private bathroom, the double-amputee was rather "allocated a stool to sit on in a communal shower room," he explained.

Pistorius, who recently turned 28 last Nov. 22, spends most of his day inside his 6-by-8 cell. Like any other inmates, he is also given an hour for exercise and another hour for any outdoor activities.

The gold medalist maintains his innocence of the crime, saying that he shot model-girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp cowering behind a bathroom door, with the impression that she was an intruder. However, the Paralympic sprinter says he's been touched by fellow prisoners coming to terms with their imprisonment sentences.
