The event this year is taking place at the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Los Angeles, Ca. and will not just be the top film awards of the year, but also one of the top fashion events of the year.

The event this year will be hosted by Family Guy's Seth MacFarlane.

One of the major developments prior to this year's event surrounded Ben Affleck and his popular film Argo.

Only six times in the history of the Oscars has the winner of the Best Director not resulted in a Best Picture award. So many have said that when actor and director Ben Affleck wasn't nominated in the former category, the odds seemed to be stacked against Argo obtaining the top awards honor.

However, the film remains one of the favorites for the Best Picture award and could very well become the seventh film to win Best Picture without a directorial trophy.

A few months back, when Affleck's movie was about to hit the theatres, he paid no attention to the speculation for an award, according to Dawn.

"When you work for as long as we all have on something like this, the focus is just on the audience coming to see it. Otherwise, you're just a tree in the woods."

Lincoln is also one of the other major favorites for the Best Picture award. The historical piece has accrued 12 nominations.

Unlike Argo, the movie is one of the favorites in both the Best Picture category and Best Director, and many have touted the film to garner the Best Actor award as well.

Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway are two of the major favorites for the big actress awards. Lawrence has been widely praised for her part in Silver Linings Play Book, and Hathaway for her part in Les Miserables. Hathaway's part in that film was relatively short but was so intensive and well acted that she has collected her plaudits for the performance.

Meanwhile, Daniel Day Lewis will be one of the favorites for his portrayal of President Lincoln in "Lincoln." If he wins he will become for first actor to take home a third Best Actor award.
