'Outlander' season 2 plot spoilers: On the hunt for a 'Brianna', making changes to storyline
The schedule for the return of "Outlander" Season 2 has yet to be set but the people behind the show are letting the fans in on the latest updates about the show - beginning with a recent casting call. In a report by International Business Times, "Outlander" has sent out a casting notice for the character Brianna, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie's (Sam Heughan's) daughter.
TVLine released the official character description saying that the show is particularly looking for a 20-something American who is determined, charming, intelligent and has a sense of humor. They also indicated that it's not necessary to be a natural redhead as they can easily fix that with dye. Additionally, they are looking for a 5'8 and over actress who can portray an "earthy and grounded and not girly" role.
The description of Brianna they are looking for pretty much corresponds to Diana Gabaldon's version in the novel, which book purists immensely appreciate. But while the second season will follow the second book "Dragonfly in Amber," it will swivel a bit from the original and take pieces from the fourth book "Drums of Autumn." This was pointed out when the casting notice says that Brianna, who is sometimes called "Bree," "will secretly follow her mother back in time to find the father she never met and the family she never knew." However, in the novel, the character enters at the start of the sophomore installment of the book in Scotland during the 1960s. Her name will also be changed to Brianna Randall from Brianna Fraser.

In the first season, the show also similarly made small escapes from the original source material. Apparently, those small changes gave the story, as well as the characters, a sophisticated twist. Now that they're doing it one more time with the second season, fans can be assured that "Outlander" writers are in the works of making the show better.
As of the moment, Sony Pictures Television, producer of "Outlander," confirmed that they are working on the casting process.
