'Outlander' Season 3 Episode 4 Spoilers, News: Caitriona Balfe Defends Frank; Claire Searches for Jamie

Caitriona Balfe, who plays Claire, explains why Frank (Tobias Menzies) is no bad guy in his marriage with her character. Meanwhile, Claire searches for Jamie (Sam Heughan) in episode 4.

Balfe defended Frank for having a mistress and wanting to have a fresh start when his marriage with Claire became beyond repair.

"Everyone gives Frank such a bad rap, but if you're in that marriage, I think he can't help but try and find the things that he needs outside of it," said Balfe in an interview with Mashable, while adding that the reason why Claire isn't acting out because she still has Jamie's love.

"And really the tragic victim in that marriage is Frank, because he's somebody who really wants Claire and still is in love with Claire and still desires her, but she just can't reciprocate it," Balfe explained.

But according to Balfe, the reason why Claire wasn't acting out on her unsuccessful marriage with Frank is that she already had experienced true love with Jamie, something that she can treasure until her last days, which is somewhat unfair to Frank.

However, the actress also revealed that Claire regretted how much she took her marriage with Frank for granted, which she only realized when she was saying her goodbyes to her dead husband.

"At that moment she just realized that, there's always been this huge love for [him]... It's an apology," Balfe said.

Meanwhile, now that Frank is gone, Claire will begin her search for Jamie.

According to the episode 4 teaser, Claire will be accompanied by her daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin) to look for Jamie in history books. On the other hand, Jamie will take the job as a groomsman among a noble family in the past.
