'Outlander' Season 3: Jamie to Wield Bow and Arrow

Since the popular TV series "Outlander" premiered on Starz, the lead character Jamie, portrayed by Sam Heughan, has always been seen using swords extensively as his weapon of choice. However, in a behind-the-scenes video released online, it was revealed that the Scotsman will be seen using a bow and arrow in "Outlander" season 3.

In an exclusive interview with ETOnline, Jim Elliot, the official armourer for "Outlander," gave a sneak peek at some of the weapons that fans will get to see in the third season. He first displayed the broad sword that Jamie used in the previous season and proceeded to show two arrows that were used by Heughan during the filming of the upcoming season. One of them is a real arrow while the other one is made only of rubber.

The Battle of Culloden is expected to be the biggest action sequence that the TV series has ever featured. Elliot also admitted that it was quite a "daunting" task to prepare for it.

"We had four trucks of weapons [for the Battle of Culloden,]" Elliot said. "Seven hundred weapons on a daily basis for two weeks [shooting on the field] and then picks-ups and green screens. It was long days, but enjoyable and I hope it looks great on screen."

It is not certain if Jamie will be using the bow and arrow in this particular fight. But, aside from this new weapon, behind-the-scenes footage also revealed that Jamie will be spending some of his time in a cave in the upcoming third season of "Outlander."

As previously reported, the cast and crew of "Outlander" have been working hard to film its third season in South Africa. They have also been recently joined by Diana Gabaldon, the author of the best-selling "Outlander" book series the TV show is based on, to observe in a consulting capacity.

The third season of "Outlander" will premiere sometime this September on Starz.
