There were 3,189 entries in the contest to design Rick Warren’s new book cover, the site hosting the graphic designs reported.
Last Wednesday, megachurch pastor and bestselling author Rick Warren launched on Twitter an open design contest for the cover of his new book, The Hope You Need.
Within a few days, thousands of artists submitted ideas for a chance to win $3,000. Zondervan, the book’s publisher, later increased the prize money to $5,000. The contest ended on Sept. 19.
According to 99designs.com, the site hosting the entries, the contest holder has about a week left to pick a winner for the design contest.
Warren’s new book The Hope You Need is based on sermons on the Lord’s Prayer that he delivered to his Saddleback Church congregation in southern California. With the economic crisis, Warren explained, he felt like people needed a message about hope.
“My motivation as an author has always been the message, not the market and I have been waiting for the right time, until I had something to say that would speak to the personal and societal problems we all face, ” he said.

His last book, The Purpose Driven Life, is one of the best selling books in history, with over 30 million copies sold.
The Hope You Need is scheduled to be available in English and Spanish in bookstores worldwide on Nov. 17.
