Blizzard Nerfs Overwatch Sudden Death Mode Duration in "Overwatch"

The notes for the newest patch have been posted on the Battle.net forum, and the most notable change is the shortening of the duration of Sudden Death in some maps, except for the Hollywood map. The Sudden Death Mode is a feature that is present in the Competitive mode of the game. It usually happens when both teams have the same score.

To play and determine the roles of the "Overwatch" player teams, a coin flip will assign attack and defense roles. They will need to battle out to either conquer or protect a specific place in the map for about a minute and 45 seconds.

According to Tech Times, some players have major complaints over the Sudden Death feature as each map has its own advantages and disadvantages depending on their roles. Blizzard has shortened the time limits of the feature a little differently for each map. All other maps, except Hollywood, are limited to 1:30 to 1:35 seconds of gameplay only.

Blizzard to Remove Sudden Death Mode in "Overwatch"

The patch release for Xbox One and PS4 hasn't been rolled out, but it has been reported that Blizzard will remove Sudden Death in "Overwatch," Ubergizmo reported. The high number of complaints and the fact that the mode's flip coin feature cannot balance out the advantages and disadvantages for fair play may be the cause of it.

Game designer Scott Mercer confirmed that Sudden Death mode will permanently be removed during season two, PC Gamer noted. Instead of using a coin flip to decide the roles, the team will be looking and adapting to a new "concept of ties" for the game.
