'Pain and Gain' Trailer With the 'Rock' and Mark Wahlberg Released

The first preview for director Michael Bay's new film "Pain and Gain" has been released, and critics are reeling about the film's expected originality and its subtle blend of action and comedy.

"People I've shown it to, literally the first thing they say is, 'That is really original,'" Bay, who has previously directed the films "Transformers" and "Armageddon", told The Huffington Post.

"A bunch of people have said that right off of the bat. So, whatever that means. Because when you direct it, you're kind of inside of it and it's hard to see it. It's quirky, it's funny, it's twisted -- but you get a lot of character in it. To me, there's an underlying current of, 'No one is happy with what they've got.' That's why I've always liked it and it has always appealed to me," Bay added.

The film's plot includes actors Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson playing two Miami-based bodybuilding fanatics who find themselves in a serious snafu after they partake in a kidnapping gone wrong.

The film is apparently based on a true story, chronicled in a 1999 series of articles written for the Miami New Times by investigative journalist Pete Collins.

Wahlberg reportedly had two months to prepare for the role of the steroid-addled fitness guru in "Pain and Gain", telling Men's Fitness that he had to exercise frequently and eat up to ten meals a day to pack on calories.

Wahlberg became so involved in his role that he even trademarked his own line of protein drinks, called "Marked," according to Yahoo News.

Critics and fans alike have been expressing their excitement for the release of this upcoming film, with The Huffington Post calling it "an amalgam of 'Bad Boys,' 'Out of Sight,' 'Boogie Nights' and the Hans & Frans 'Saturday Night Live' sketch that Dana Carvey and Kevin Nealon made famous in the '90s."

"Pain and Gain" will open nationwide April 26.
