Mission Impossible 6 Rumors: Paramount Wants Tom Cruise to Do Another 'Mission Impossible'

"Mission: Impossible 5 - Rogue Nation" is doing well so far in the box office – grossing more than $120 million in its opening alone. The U.S. opening accounted for almost half of that at $56 million, while the rest of the world brought in $65 million during the movie's opening, according to reports.

It is because of this box office performance that the movie's star Tom Cruise recently made an announcement that another sequel is in the works – a "Mission: Impossible 6," if you will. This announcement was accompanied by a surprising pronouncement from Paramount Pictures Vice Chairman Rob Moore that the studio is backing the star on this all the way.

"We're very happy to be developing this movie with Tom. There's no question that Ethan Hunt deserves another film." Moore said. "The international brand is as strong as ever."

According to the Variety report, this was not usual for studio execs to make such a comment in terms of future films in development. But one analyst the report cited said that Paramount's move was "very smart" and that "given the performance of 'Rogue Nation,' there has to be another movie."

Last week, Cruise shared during an interview on "The Daily Show" that he was soon going to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt for what he called a "sixth 'Mission: Impossible'," which will begin production a year from now.

"We're starting to work on it now. We'll probably start shooting it next summer," the actor said.

The film franchise which has produced four films prior to "Rogue Nation," has earned a total of $2 billion worldwide. These four films were directed by different directors, namely Brian De Palma, John Woo, J.J. Abrams and Brad Bird. "Rogue Nation" was directed by Christopher McQuarrie.
