Bobby played a significant role in the development of Parks and Rec's season 4 when he ran against Leslie (Amy Poehler) for a City Council seat in the fictional Indiana town of Pawnee. Bobby eventually lost to the latter.

"He's the world's nicest human being—and the funniest," executive producer Michael Schur told EW. "We made a list of all the people that we wanted to have back and he was high on the list, so we managed to snag him."

Aside from Rudd, other beloved characters like the local nurse Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones) and state auditor Chris Traeger (Rob Lowe) will also return for the program's send-off season. Variety also reported that celebrity guests Jon Hamm, Megan Mullaly, and Natalie Morales will also be appearing as the season progresses.

Rudd, meanwhile, will be appearing as the titular superhero character in the upcoming Marvel film, "Ant-Man" which is slated to hit the theaters July 17, 2015.

"Parks and Recreation" will return to NBC on Jan. 13.
