A congregation is now grieving after an elderly North Carolina pastor was killed Monday morning when his church's van rolled over him as he prepared to deliver food to the needy.

Police in Hendersonville have called the death of 69-year-old Henry Lineberger, associate pastor at New Beginnings World Outreach Center, a freak accident, according to WLOS.

Lineberger, according to police, was seen changing the brake fluid on the church van at about 9:30 a.m. at the church grounds on Monday. City workers later found the pastor unresponsive underneath the van. The vehicle was reportedly in neutral when they got to the scene and police have theorized that the van rolled because it was on an incline and the pastor tried to stop it.

"If you look at the ground, there's four spaces where there's some ice and there's tire tread in the ice right there. That's where it was parked, and it went straight down the hill into the roadway. And that's where it ran over the gentleman," Sgt. Brandon McGaha of the Hendersonville Police Department told WLOS.

Church member Sherry Leyva said Lineberger was a positive influence and that he would be missed.

"He will be missed. Always greeted people, always had such a positive attitude," said Leyva. "You could be negative and he would get you positive again. Yeah, you can't replace that man. You can't replace him."

The church's website says Lineberger has been an associate pastor in the organization for seven years and enjoyed traveling, animals, nutrition and the outdoors with his wife, Stacie.

"Upon becoming born-again and filled with the Holy Spirit, Henry felt led to begin seeking a church to lead in that was Spirit-filled. Pastor Henry followed the will of the Lord to partner with Senior Pastor Tom in leading the church. One of Henry and Stacie's key verses that they live by is also Proverbs 3:5-7," it said.

Proverbs 3: 5-7 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil."
