Patrick Dempsey Rescue: 911 Call Released

Patrick Dempsey may play a doctor on "Grey's Anatomy," but it was pure instinct that led him to save a young boy in a car accident. Now the official 911 call made by a fellow passerby has been released and shows just how level-headed Dempsey remained throughout the ordeal.

"There is a car accident … one vehicle. It's upside down," the caller tells a 911 dispatcher. "My husband and three other guys (including Dempsey) just pulled the boy out."

Dempsey is being hailed as a hero for his actions after the accident.

"I was scared for my life. I was upside down," Weston Masset, 17, told ABC News. He was behind the wheel of a Mustang, when it rolled over three times, leaving him trapped and unconscious.

Masset remembered Dempsey pulling him from the vehicle and calling 911 before calling Masset's mother to tell her the news.

"He had a certain authority in his voice," said Mary Beth Masset. "I asked if he was a paramedic, and he said, 'No, this is Patrick Dempsey.'"

The 17-year-old was taken to a hospital and treated for a concussion and an eye injury but is expected to fully recover from his ordeal.

"He was there for me," Masset said of Dempsey. "It would have been a lot worse without him."

Dempsey is an actor by trade but often races as part of the Dempsey Racing team. He is no stranger to fast speeds or accidents, having been a driver for at least seven years. Dempsey has not spoken publicly about the incident with Masset, a testament to his humility.

Fans, however, are soaking it all up and singing his praises online.

"He plays a doctor on TV, and when Patrick Dempsey rescued a teen from an auto accident, he became a real life McDreamy," tweeted DealerCRM.

"I'm about to have to flip my car in front of Patrick Dempsey's house so he can save me," Logan Thompson added.

"The only way I could ever establish my credentials as a cultural icon would be to save Patrick Dempsey from Ryan Gosling," tweeted Mark Campbell. Campbell's reference is to the news that fellow actor Ryan Gosling saved a tourist from being hit by a cab on the streets of New York last month.
