The New England Patriots will clash with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, with the Patriots not only looking to bounce back from their tough loss to the San Francisco 49ers last week, but looking to smash the Jaguars by so much that they can be confident last week was just a simple hiccup.
The game will start at 1 p.m. ET and can be watched online through free live stream (link provided below).
The lowly Jaguars have the 31st ranked defense in the NFL, meaning this should not really be a matter of who will win the game, but more how much can the Patriots win the game by.
Just cruising over the line to a win probably will not do anything to banish the memories of last week's tight loss to the 49ers. The Patriots will be looking to truly trounce the Jaguars today to send out a signal to the rest of the NFL that the team they saw last week was not what they can expect come the playoffs.
Last week's loss moves the Patriots to 10-4, which is light years ahead of the Jaguars who are on 2-12, making them one of the worst, if not the very worst team in the NFL this year.
One thing the Patriots will be looking for is to maintain the level of intensity of performance once the result is settled. They will not want to stream out into a comfortable lead and then let things get sloppy. New England will be looking to secure the result quickly and then to get everything streamlined, ready for their final game next week, and of course the playoffs to come.
Once the playoffs come around, things will turn on small margins of error, and for many teams survival will depend on coming out on the right side of those tight margins. Last week the Patriots were on the wrong side of a tight game against the 49ers.
To the neutrals it was a fantastic game, with the 49ers claiming the Patriots' scalp in a 41-34 win. But putting on a good game will not be any comfort to the Patriots should they find themselves on the wrong side of a tight result once the postseason begins. They will want to iron out all the areas of their play and make sure they push themselves that extra 5 to 10 percent that can be the difference between a tight win or a tough loss once the big games come up.
Regardless, for the neutrals the Patriots are a joy to watch, and they will have a lot of the neutral fans on their side once the playoffs start. They rank number one in points scored per game (36.1) as well as overall yards gained per game (432.4).
Today's match up is the leagues number 1 offense against the league's 31st defense. Expect carnage!
