Paul Newman's death four years ago stalled the making of "Lucky Them," but work has finally resumed on the iconic actor's final project this week.

The Academy Award-winning actor died at age 83 on Sept. 26, 2008 in Westport, Conn. after a battle against lung cancer.

In 2007, Newman retired from acting but remained very involved with films.

Newman was an executive producer on "Lucky Them," which is an "unromantic comedy" about a female rock journalist on assignment to locate her musician ex-boyfriend.

The movie resumed filming in Seattle last week on Newman's birthday- Jan. 26, Deadline.com reported. It would have been the actor's 88th birthday.

Helming the film is Megan Griffiths, while Newman's wife Joanne Woodward and will be among those executive producing the picture.

"Lucky Them" originally had Marisa Tomei, Alec Bladwin, and Allison Janney attached, according to Deadline.

Today, the cast includes actress Toni Collette of "The Sixth Sense," "Spider-Man 3" star Thomas Haden Church, Oliver Platt, and "The Help" star Ahna O'Reilly, according to ABC's Channel 9 News.

Also among Newman's last works was 2007's "Dale" about legendary NASCAR racer Dale Earnhardt, where the director served as narrator. He also served as narrator in the film documentary "The Meerkats," released in 2008.

In addition to his passion for film, Newman was also an entrepreneur, humanitarian, and professional racecar driver. Furthermore, he owned autoracing teams and was a racing enthusiast. The actor co-founded Newman's Own, a food company from which Newman donated all post-tax profits and royalties to charity.

Newman, who was married to actress Joanne Woodward for 50 years, is famously quoted for his thoughtful take on his wife when asked about infidelity.

"Why go out for a hamburger when you have steak at home," the director quipped.
