'PayDay 2' Game Update: Apology From Developer Overkill Software Over Micro-transactions

Cooperative first-person shooter video game "PayDay 2" wreaked havoc after developer Overkill Software included micro-transactions upon the release of the "Black Market" update for the game. According to Den of Geek, the update outraged fans resulting to the game's Steam and Reddit page to be filled up with negative comments and gruesome reviews.

VG 24/7 detailed that the update added random item drops to the game. It included a Safe which players will need to open using a Drill. However, the drills cost €2.20/$2.50 in real money. The Safe also contains a random weapon skin which would provide the player a stat boost once armed. Alternatively, the skin can be sold and traded on the Steam Community Market for a bit of cash.

Some fans were greatly disappointed since the team behind the game previously told them that it will not have any micro-transactions. And because the negativity and threats continued to pour out, the moderators of "PayDay 2" opted to go on strike.

Overkill eventually responded through their Steam page, writing an open letter which contained an apology for the addition of the micro-transactions. It said that the past few weeks have been the most challenging one for the team.

"Players have been angry with us, media have written about us en masse and our volunteer moderators went on strike," producer Almir Listo wrote in the Steam page. "For all the distress we've caused the past few weeks, I'd just like to take the time and say that we're sorry. We've done a lot of things right in the past, but these past few weeks we screwed up," Listo added.

The message then said that they will "do their best to improve as soon as possible." Their next action is to keep a close watch on Steam Community forums for feedback and continue to be involved in community discussion. However, according to Kotaku, the micro-transactions have not been removed. Fans will need to stay tuned for updates.
