PC(USA)-related Colleges Among Best in U.S.
U.S. News puts six Presbyterian schools on its top-50 list
LOUISVILLE - Six Presbyterian Church (USA) institutions are among the top 50 liberal-arts colleges in the United States, according to the latest annual rankings by U.S. News & World Report. The top colleges related to the PC(USA) are Davidson College, Davidson, NC; Macalester College, St. Paul, MN; Lafayette College, Easton, PA; Centre College, Danville, KY; Rhodes College, Memphis, TN; and Agnes Scott College, Decatur, GA.
All but Agnes Scott were also on last year's top-50 list.
Six other PC(USA)-related schools are included in the magazine's "second tier" of liberal-arts institutions: The College of Wooster, Wooster, OH; Austin College, Sherman, TX; Hanover College, Hanover, IN; Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, IL; Hampden-Sydney College, Hampden-Sydney, VA; and Presbyterian College, Clinton, SC.
An additional 24 colleges and universities with Presbyterian connections are ranked among first- and second-tier schools in other categories.
Included in regional rankings of universities offering Master's degrees: Arcadia University, Glenside, PA; Queens University of Charlotte, Charlotte, NC; Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, VA; Trinity University, San Antonio, TX; Whitworth College, Spokane, WA; Westminster College, Salt Lake City, UT; Warren Wilson College, Asheville, NC; and the University of Dubuque, Dubuque, IA.
On the regional lists of the best comprehensive colleges offering Bachelor's degrees are: Grove City College, Grove City, PA; Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA; Maryville College, Maryville, TN; the University of the Ozarks, Clarksville, AR; Johnson C. Smith College, Charlotte, NC; Millikin College Decatur, IL; the College of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, MO; Buena Vista College, Storm Lake, IA; Illinois College, Jacksonville, IL; Carroll College, Waukesha, WI; Rocky Mountain College, Billings, MT; Belhaven College, Jackson, MS; Davis & Elkins College, Elkins, WV; Peace College, Raleigh, NC; and Stillman College, Tuscaloosa, AL.
The list of best universities offering doctoral degrees includes the University of Tulsa, Tulsa, OK.
