Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem welcomed their second child, a baby girl, yesterday. The couple enjoyed their privacy thanks to media coverage of the royal birth in London.
Cruz was admitted to Ruber Internacional hospital in Madrid yesterday and gave birth to a healthy baby girl. No name has been released yet, but Cruz and Bardem are famous for protecting their privacy. The newest Bardem joins big brother Leonardo, 2, who was born at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.
"I want my son and my kids – if I have more – to grow up in a way that is as anonymous as possible," Cruz told Vogue magazine. "The fact that his father and I have chosen to do the work we do doesn't give anybody the right to invade our privacy."
Cruz, 39, married Bardem in 2010 at a friend's home in the Bahamas. The couple had a very intimate ceremony and one year later welcomed Leonardo into the family.
"Nature is very wise and gives you nine months to prepare, but in that moment – when you see that face, you are transformed forever. Even if you have heard from all your family and friends, 'This is what's going to happen,' until it happens to you, it's hard to understand in your soul. From the first second, you feel so much love. It is a revolutionary experience. It transforms you completely, in a second," Cruz added.
Cruz was active throughout her second pregnancy, though not to the extent of her first one. She worked on "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" during her pregnancy and was busy tending to newborn Leonardo's needs as well. On Saturday, Cruz was seen at the Los Veranos de la Villa Music Festival in Madrid, with her full baby bump.
Of course, Cruz's daughter will share a birthday with the new Prince of Cambridge, who was just as eagerly anticipated by the world.
