'Penny Dreadful' Season 3 Update & Spoilers: Patti Lupone Returns as Dr. Seward, Billie Piper to Reprise Role

British-American horror drama television series "Penny Dreadful" has been renewed for its third season and it only means one thing—more stories and mysteries will be unfolded soon. It can be remembered from the previous season that a lot had happened including the death of Evelyn.

In the upcoming season, a familiar face will return. According to Venture Capital Post, Patti Lupone will be appearing again in the show and this time, she has been cast as a series regular. But she will no longer play the role of Joana Clayton or the Cut-Wife who first appeared in the series as an abortionist and helped Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) with her problem.

Fashion n Style reported that the Cut-Wife is thought to have died in the second season. But it seems like she did not really die and perhaps faked her own death for a reason. It's speculated that she returns to help her mentee battle the dark forces that want to get rid of her. In the third season, she will take on the role named Dr. Seward, an American therapist who will treat Vanessa with an eccentric new approach. It's still to be known if the Cut-Wife and Dr. Seward will turn out to be the same person. If so, she might be helping Vanessa again to use her powers fight against Dracula and Lucifer.

Another character making a comeback in the show is Lily Frankenstein, played by Billie Piper. It has been known in the past that Lily is an Irish immigrant trying to run away from her terrible past. It's expected that more of her story will be unveiled in the junior season.

And speaking of unveiling, the season two finale revealed that Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) is a werewolf. Now, how did that happen? It's most likely that his past will be revealed as well, including on the reason why he has been running away from his father.

There's no announcement yet on the date it will premiere but it's expected to come around 2016.
