'Percy Jackson 3' Release Rumors: 'The Titan's Curse' Still in Limbo

Fans of Rick Riordan's mythological fiction novels are still hoping to see his third book in the "Percy Jackson" series, "The Titan's Curse," come to life as a movie. However, at the moment, there is still no update on whether or not there is going to be a third Percy Jackson film.

Back in 2014, Logan Lerman, who played the protagonist demi-god Percy Jackson in both movies, announced (via MTV) that there were no plans for another sequel. It came as a surprise to many, as they were hoping that Percy's journey would still continue. "The Lightning Thief" was released in 2010, while "The Sea of Monsters" hit the cinemas in 2013.

Both films followed the story of Percy and his friends as they live in Camp Half-Blood, a place for the sons and daughters of the Olympus gods. "The Sea of Monsters" saw Percy defeat Kronos with the help of Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario), Athena's daughter, and Grover (Brandon T. Jackson), a satyr.

"It's not happening," Lerman said, according to MTV. He adds: "It's been a great experience for me. It's opened up a lot of doors for me, but I don't think it's happening."

According to MTV, "The Titan's Curse," the third novel in Riordan's Percy Jackson series, would have been released in movie theaters in 2015 or 2016. The storyline would have seen Percy trying to save his ladylove Annabeth from her abductors as well as rescuing Artemis, the goddess of hunting.

Last year, talks of the CW's plan to make a television series out of Riordan's novels surfaced. According to reports, the network has allegedly allocated a budget of $12 million for the production of the show's first installment along with the first half of the second season. The CW is said to be considering a new actor to play the role of the protagonist, someone in his early teens. The new cast will also reportedly be offered a 10-year contract. Until now, though, the CW has not confirmed the said rumors.
