Phillip Phillips, 'Idol' Finalist, 'Scared of Messing Up'

This season of "American Idol" has been narrowed down to just two finalists including Phillip Phillips, who noted the mounting pressure.

"There was a lot of pressure," Phillips told reporters after his performance on Tuesday. "I didn't want to mess it up and I was so scared of messing up [the song I sang tonight] because I know so many Bob Seger songs except that one."

As the competition heated up, Phillips' song was selected for him during the past round of performances.

"I was like, 'Can I do this one or that one?' and it was like, 'Nope you gotta do this one,' and was like, 'Argh,'" explained the blues singer. "It was a very beautiful song and it was very different from what I do so I think it came out well."

Recently, the 21-year-old "Idol" contestant was identified as actress Julianne Hough's favorite on the show. The rumored "crush" was revealed by Hough's boyfriend and "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest.

"We were backstage and you ran past my girlfriend and she sighed and blushed," Seacrest said to Phillips after his performance on the show two weeks ago.

The host added of his girlfriend, "I think I heard her say, 'Yummy.'"

Phillips is a resilient favorite on the show with many others fans as well. Twitter users sounded off following his performance this week, including Lauren who wrote that she was "blown away, he is amazing!"

The competition saw the elimination of Joshua Ledet Thursday, leaving just Phillips and one other finalist, 16-year-old Jessica Sanchez.

The final showdown between Sanchez and Phillips will take place during a 2-hour season finale next Tuesday, followed by the results show on Wednesday. The winner will receive a recording contract.

Currently in its 11th season, "American Idol" remains one of the most-watched television series in the U.S. Judges on the show include Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler.
