Dr. Kermit Gosnell, who ran a fraudulent and illegal abortion clinic in Philadelphia and is accused of killing live babies and performing late term abortions, may face the death penalty as more former employees agree to testify against him.

Besides Gosnell, 10 other employees are charged with various crimes at the clinic. The crimes are of a shockingly brutal nature, such as stabbing newborn babies in the neck with scissors.

Lynda Williams is the latest woman to plead guilty to third-degree murder and admitted on Wednesday to having participated in the death of a newborn and giving the child’s mother a fatal overdose of anesthesia.

Williams was initially hired by Gosnell to clean instruments at the abortion clinic that often took in poor refugees and immigrants while offering unsanitary conditions.

Williams said she was eventually given other jobs to do, including administrating anesthesia to patients. She was found responsible for the death of Karnamaya Mongar, a Bhutan native, in 2009, to which she gave a lethal overdose of drugs.

The grand jury revealed that regulators had not inspected the clinic for years, where Gosnell, 70, the only licensed doctor, performed late-term abortions and allowed untrained and lowly paid staffers to perform skilled care and monitor patients.

As the evidence mounts against Gosnell, he awaits a trial along with his wife who helped him run the clinic. He is charged with first-degree murder and is likely to face the death penalty if convicted.

A 260-page report was published by the grand jury in February 2011 that described some of the horrific conditions found at the facility.

“This case is about a doctor who killed babies and endangered women. What we mean is that he regularly and illegally delivered live, viable babies in the third trimester of pregnancy and then murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors,” said the grand jury report.
