Photos from the National Day of Conscience on Sudan
More than 3,000 people nationwide took part in the National Day of Conscience on Sudan, signing up online to watch the August 25 broadcast of an interview with the survivor of the Darfur genocide. The Webcast originated from a refugee camp in Chad, just across the border of Sudan.
We were targeted "just because we are Black,” said a refugee at the camp. “150 of us are here in this camp. I don't know what happened to the others."
The refugee and others pled for international intervention and humanitarian support.
Meanwhile, in cities across the nation, leaders from Jewish, Christian and Muslim faith communities prayed together on public grounds to express their joint disdain of the genocide.

The vigils and the broadcast was part of the National Day of Conscience, a day organized by the National Council of Churches USA and 70 other faith-based, humanitarian groups to raise public awareness of the genocide in Sudan.
